Why is school important, but education essential?

We all know how the famous quote goes: “Do not let school interfere with your education.”,  and we’ve always agreed to that but how exactly can you not? Why isn’t the learning we do at school and the homework we do afterwards enough? I do know that most of the time, as students, our days a packed with assignments we must hand in, cramming for exams, spending time with family and friends and taking a break from everything. So theoretically, we don’t have time for some extra education. In the following, I’m going to state why that’s not exactly true.

What form of education is meant?

It’s simply everything that positively contributes to our person. Our habits, our way of dealing with people and our social competence and most importantly, our skills. How we solve a problem, how we manage our money, how we take care of ourselves etc. These are all knowledgeable things you can’t pull an all-nighter for but can be practiced and mastered.

How do you start working on yourself?

They say your environment imprints on your soul. Now let me give you an example: You know you need to be productive tomorrow to keep up, so you write down a short to-do list and go to sleep. You finally doze off after reading a few chapters. Nine hours later, you wake before sunrise to a tidy room. You first make your bed, get ready and start working.

I need you now to picture the day that proceeds afterwards. Is your person productive, do they have time to practice her hobbies because of good time management, do they feel accomplished at the end of their day? Tiny habits like of cleaning up after yourself, keeping a journal and drinking enough water aren’t so tiny anymore once they keep being repeated because they start to feel natural. From there on everything else falls into place like domino's. You oversee your day, and with that your life, because you started off- and ended it correctly.

Is learning how to be in charge of your life the additional education needed?

Precisely! You could work hours on something, haphazardly, without getting any further but once you plan it out, you start seeing what normally would have gone unnoticed. Being financially aware helps you save exactly where you need to, easily. You experience less stress on the one hand because you know you’re doing well and on the other hand because it pays off.

Conclusion:

As young adults, we often have a hard time getting through our day and that is not because it’s your fault or you’re to stupid to etc. – nobody simply tells you how. There are habits you can practice every day, that are going to be essential for the rest of your life, that control your well-being. Let us start small by taking control of the beginning and end of our day.                - Chelsea A. -
